EDMONTON, ALBERTA and SAINT JOHN, NEW BRUNSWICK, CANADA – November 20 2017 Mariner’s SHIFT Energy will deploy their proven artificial intelligence (AI) software to advance energy efficiency in Alberta with funding from SDTC and ERA. Energy Optimization Software (EOS) is a flexible smart building solution that delivers a significant financial impact (saving 10-20% of a facilities gross energy cost) in a short amount of time while reducing overall carbon footprint. SHIFT Energy will use the $2.4 million ($1.2 million each from federal and provincial governments) to deploy their technology across Canada in their target markets – healthcare, commercial office buildings, venues, and airports. SHIFT was awarded the funding with consortium members BGIS and EllisDon who will be a part of the deployment in the selected sites.
“Our technology has been developed and proven in the market with partners like the Diamond Healthcare Centre at Vancouver General Hospital, the Rogers Arena in Vancouver as well as AMALIE Arena, home to the Tampa Bay Lightning. This funding will provide multiple proof points for a variety of SHIFT Energy’s target markets and help with the broader adoption of EOS across venues, healthcare facilities, commercial buildings, airports and data-centres. We’re looking forward to the opportunity to partner with Canadian businesses to help achieve Canada’s and Alberta’s GHG reduction goals through the deployment of innovative Canadian technology,” says Mariner CEO, Curtis Howe
The Honourable Amarjeet Sohi, Minister of Infrastructure and Communities, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, announced a federal government investment of $13.5 million, through Sustainable Development Technology Canada (SDTC), to advance technologies being developed by small and medium-sized clean tech enterprises. Government of Alberta funding of $15.3 million, through Emissions Reduction Alberta (ERA) and Alberta Innovates, was also announced today by the Honourable Christina Gray, Minister of Labour and Minister Responsible for Democratic Renewal, on behalf of Deron Bilous, Minister of Economic Development and Trade, for a total investment of $28.8 million in 11 Canadian clean tech businesses.
The funded projects will result in lower greenhouse gas emissions, cleaner methods for oil and gas mining, better energy efficiency in buildings, and other environmental and economic benefits that ensure the health of our communities.
“Our government’s investments in clean technology reflect our commitment to innovation and protecting the environment. Being innovative and investing in the clean tech sector leads to the development of products and services that benefit all sectors of the economy and creates thousands of well-paying jobs for Canadians. I’m pleased to see the federal government and Alberta collaborate on these important investments in the health of our communities.” – The Honourable Amarjeet Sohi, Minister of Infrastructure and Communities
SHIFT Energy’s EOS is a highly secure cloud-based software that works with existing building systems to automatically reduce energy costs and GHG emissions in a wide variety of buildings. It works with building systems, including Building Automation Systems, to gather minute-by-minute operational data and store it in the cloud. EOS analyzes that data, along with weather forecasts, time of day pricing of electricity, occupancy and event schedules and uses Artificial Intelligence to determine how to maximize everyone’s comfort while saving the most money. Energy costs are reduced, and day-to-day operations simplified without giving up comfort or operational compliance. EOS is the perfect solution to make a smart building smarter.
