Mariner expands Halifax operations

Innovation, IT strategy and security to be among top offerings

HALIFAX – One of the largest independent information technology services firms in Atlantic Canada is expanding its Halifax operations.

Mariner, a group of companies established by Gerry Pond, Curtis Howe and Bob Justason, opened up a new office this summer at the Bond Building on Spring Garden Road in the heart of Halifax’s new Innovation District.

“With the work Mariner companies are doing in 10 countries, it just made good sense to expand our presence in Halifax – which has been one of Canada’s leaders in economic growth over the last several years,” said Howe, Mariner’s chief executive officer and co-founder.  “We expect Halifax will see plenty of activity related to Mariner Innovations, helping clients with advisory services, project delivery, flex staffing and security solutions.”

Mariner’s chief marketing officer Chris Crowell will be the executive team lead primarily based out of Halifax, working alongside approximately 10 other specialists.  With a joint Master’s of Business Administration and Bachelor of Law degree from Dalhousie University, Crowell began his career at Bell Canada, focusing on innovation strategy, partnerships and driving operational productivity improvements.  More recently, he built the worldwide licensing organization at OpenText and led business development for NeuLion across North America, Australia and Europe.

“It’s exciting to move back to Halifax as part of a growing company that is taking world-first technologies to market globally, as well as funding, mentoring and supporting more than 30 start-ups in Atlantic Canada,” said Crowell.  “Mariner offers more than 200 professionals focused on helping organizations improve their customer experience and productivity through innovation.”

Mariner companies have a proven track record of helping clients innovate beyond complexity.  Since opening for business in 2003, Mariner has delivered advanced IT projects worth more than $2 billion identified and deployed more than a million hours of skilled talent and become known as one of Atlantic Canada’s top exporters of ICT products.
